Traditional & Historical Information
Native to southern China and the Far East, mandarins were brought to Europe in 1805. Traditionally offered as a gift by the Mandarins, so the name was born. In France, Mandarin became known as a gentle remedy for indigestion and is considered safe for such use during pregnancy. It is also used to treat problem or oily skin and as a treatment for fluid retention. Mandarin oil has been found to have antiseptic, antispasmodic, laxative and stimulant properties.
Safety Considerations
This oil is phototoxic and may be irritating to the skin. Add to milk prior to dispersing in the bath as contact with heat makes mandarin oil more reactive with the skin. Sensitive skin should avoid use in the bath. Safe during pregnancy and for children older than three years of age. If ingested, drink milk. Avoid eyes, flush with water. Keep out of reach of children.
